Many people seem to be disinterested in OCs, no matter how nice the art. Not saying I myself don't buy original art, because I do, but I certainly recognize that not everyone is interested in it, and of course much of the point of the Alley is to appeal to a broad audience. :) That may be true, but you must admit that many of the buyers in the Alley are looking for familiar characters! I prefer to take my time and promote MY original works. If someone wants some anime art, let them buy an art book in the Dealer's Room.
